Live auction by Bannerman Auctions

Our Trench Art and WWI Memorabilia Sale includes a number of lots from the collection of Jane Kimball. Ms. Kimball approached collecting from the perspective of an educator and author.  She lectured on the topic internationally, and after years of work and study published the reference “Trench Art: An Illustrated History”.  Ms. Kimball was particularly known for her study and lectures on prisoner of war art; specifically the beadwork done by captured Turkish soldiers while in the custody of the British Empire, and by Austrian and Imperial German civilians living or working abroad who were detained as enemy aliens for the duration of the conflict. There are a number of pieces of Turkish beadwork and detained enemy alien prison camp bone art in the sale, several very unusual and noteworthy examples of artillery shell trench art, a large selection of trench art rings, match safes, photo frames, etc., and other souvenirs.  The sale is not limited to WWI material; there are prisoner carved wood souvenirs from the Boer War, and some WWII souvenir pieces as well.
