US Navy WWI Era Trench Art Lamp. A rewiring project as they all are, but this one is quite worth the small effort! Rather nice example, made from a 3" shell with casing. Stands 61cm (2') tall on a 21.5cm (~8-1/2") diameter turned wood base. Shell casing features a bold embossed eagle with US flags atop the globe on one side, with large "U S N" to the left and right and below; opposite side has a US sailor with a holstered automatic pistol. Nicely scalloped top border and twisted line motif at the bottom. There is a switch installed in the bottom border on the eagle and globe side. Projectile is fitted with three copper arms that have candelabra socket fittings. Unaltered rich, dark overall patina. The wood base is stained and disfigured by moisture and neglect, but can be removed for restoration via two large brass screws on the bottom. The wiring is cut, which is just as well - these things should always be considered a fire hazard with original wiring! We are including a modern (but period correct in appearance) replacement cord so that the new owner can wire it up and get this one back in service. Super piece - would look great in a collection room displayed with early 20th century US Navy material. Estimate: $300 - $400
