German Trench Art Windmill. German 10cm cartridge casing for the M04/14 Kanone stands 47cm tall including a removable conical roof piece, and measures 12.9cm across the base; features four windmill arms which each extend 20.5cm from the center point, and a hand wound clock mounted in a 9.5cm diameter bezel with domed crystal and access to the mechanism via a hatch in the back of the shell. Shell has faux windows and a door at the base, sides incised to suggest large brick blocks as the construction material. Hinged hatch on the reverse has latch operating via a cartridge case knob. Has nickel finish throughout. Clock is correct exactly twice per day; a simple thing which could likely be repaired or replaced if you feel it should earn it's place on the shelf. Wire axle for the windmill blades is unsecured in the reverse, simply protruding through the reinforcement piece which holds it. This is most likely a high-end piece made for the Western Front tourism market in the 1950's and 1960's, but it is 'trench art' all the same and quite impressive! Estimate: $200 - $400
