Brass Griffin and Thistles Art Nouveau Picture Frame. 9.5" x 11" with a 2.75" x 4.5" inside opening is freestanding with a substantial hinged brass rod soldered to the back. Winged griffins stand in each lower corner with sprays of vines and leaves swirling up the sides to a pediment of thistle blossoms. The effect is more dramatic since the edge of the frame is the cut out shape of the figures which are smooth brass and stand out sharply against a darker etched background.  I never thought I'd say this in a million years, but, the polish residue stuck in the outline of the engraving further enhances it. Despite evidence of past polishing, the brass has regained a warmer patina. Estimate: $60 - $80
