Trench Art Rose Motif Painted 3-inch Shell. Not a shell casing; this is the projectile itself, without fuze.  Inert, 23cm tall, fired projectile has light salmon base featuring a rather nicely rendered pair of rose blooms.  Paint is 90% intact with light craquelure, may be of the period, and may well be slightly later, but appears genuinely old and not a recent addition.  Out of Jane Kimball's massive trench art collection comprised of thousands of pieces, there were perhaps a dozen or so painted shell casings, and only three period painted projectiles.  Estimate: $100 - $200
