SS Magnolia "Stranding in Japan" Memorial Silk Trapunto. 17.5" x 20.5" framed dimensions; on blue silk with elaborate silk and metallic thread padded embroidery depicting crossed US and Norwegian flags with an eagle above; oval vignettes below have embroidered depiction of the vessel "SS Magnolia" and photos of two little girls (twins?).  Embroidered text: "IN MEMORY OF THE STRANDING IN JAPAN", "KOKOZANTO / ROSS ISLAND / JAPAN", "HANS HANSEN", and "JUNE 27, 1936 / 12:27 A.M."  No doubt there is a very interesting story associated with this one.  I did a bit of preliminary digging and failed to uncover it, but admittedly that was only a few minutes worth of searching - I have no doubt that the eventual owner of this will find the whole tale out there somewhere.  Intriguing subject matter, nice quality artwork, and remains in very good condition.  Estimate: $150 - $250
