Estimate: $800 - $1000 Historical Background: The Saxe-Gotha Altenburg Waterloo Medal was established following the Waterloo campaign of 1815. It was issued in different versions distinguished by rank, including variations for officers, non-commissioned officers, and other ranks. Gilded medals were typically issued to officers, while non-commissioned officers received bronze medals with gilt raised points. Other ranks were awarded a bronze version of the medal. The medal, dated 1815, featured edge-impressed inscription "HERZOGTH GOTHA VND ALTENBVRG MDCCCXIV-MDCCCXV," and was often found on a length of its original ribbon. These variations in material and design reflect the recipient's position and highlight the medal's status as a specific recognition by the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha Altenburg for participation in the military actions between 1814 and 1815.
