Estimate: $200 - $400 Historical Background: The Colonial Medal (Médaille Coloniale) was a French campaign medal established on July 23, 1893, to reward military services performed in the colonies or protectorates, resulting from participation in military operations. It was closely linked to the French colonial empire and was awarded until June 6, 1962, when it was replaced by the Médaille d'Outre-Mer (Overseas Medal) by decree. The Médaille d'Outre-Mer continues to be awarded for services in former colonies or French overseas territories. The North Africa Security and Order Operations Commemorative Medal was a French commemorative medal established in the late 1950s (January 11, 1958) for military service in North Africa between 1952 and 1964. It was awarded to French citizens and foreign nationals serving in the French Foreign Legion for military service in North Africa during the final years of French colonialism in the region. The medal is no longer awarded and could be earned with five different gilt clasps: ALGÉRIE, TUNISIE, MAROC, SAHARA, and MAURITANIE.
