Nassau Waterloo Medal German, Nassau silver medal (29mm)1815 for officers and men from Nassau that served at Waterloo. Medal exhibits even toning, polishing wear and is in good condition. Medal lacks ribbon. Estimate: $200 - $300 Historical Background: The Nassau Waterloo Medal was established by Frederick Augustus, Duke of Nassau, on December 23, 1815. This military decoration was presented by the Duchy of Nassau and awarded to the soldiers who served in the Duchy's forces during the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. The medal served to recognize the service of Nassau troops in the decisive conflict that led to the final defeat of Napoleon. The medal is typically made of silver and features distinct designs on its obverse and reverse. The reverse side includes a depiction of Victory placing a laurel wreath on the head of a Roman warrior, accompanied by the inscription "Den Nassauischen Streitern B.E.Y. Waterloo. Den 18 Juni 1815." Unlike some other Waterloo medals, the Nassau version was issued unnamed and did not include any clasps.
