Medal exhibits even toning, some slight surface scratches and is in fine condition. Medal presents proper ribbon (faded). Estimate: $300 - $500 Historical Background: The Oldenburg Medal for Waterloo is a highly rare silver medal instituted to commemorate the service of troops from the Duchy of Oldenburg in the Napoleonic Wars, specifically during the period of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. While there was a British Waterloo Medal issued for the same conflict, the Oldenburg version is distinct, measuring approximately 28.31 mm in diameter and known to have a nice patina when found in fine condition with its original ribbon. Unlike the common Waterloo Medal issued by the United Kingdom, the Oldenburg Medal is categorized as a World Medal and Decoration from the German States. Due to its historical significance and rarity, this medal is sought after by collectors and often commands a high price. It serves as an important piece of military history, recognizing the participation of Oldenburg forces in the campaign that culminated in the decisive defeat of Napoleon.
