Estimate: $150 - $250 Historical Background: The Hesse-Kassel Campaign Medal for Combatants, officially known as the Kriegsdenkmünze 1814-1815 für Kämpfer, was instituted by Prince Elector Wilhelm II on March 14, 1821. This commemorative war medal was awarded to Kurhessian soldiers who participated in the Napoleonic Campaigns of 1814 and 1815, particularly those involved in the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. The medal is notable because it was struck from captured French cannon, a fact referenced by the inscription "AUS EROBERTEM GESCHÜETZ" or "from Captured Cannon" found on the edge of the bronze combatant's version. The medal is 29mm in bronze and features a crowned monogram of Kurfürst Wilhelm II on the obverse, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Below the cipher, the inscription reads "SEINEN TAPFERN HESSEN" or "TO HIS BRAVE HESSIANS" alongside the institution date of 1821. The reverse side displays a Cross Pattée bearing the campaign dates 1814-1815, often wreathed, with a knight's helm positioned above the cross.
