Estimate: $200 - $400 Historical Background: The Order of Leopold II is a Belgian order of merit established on August 24, 1900, by King Leopold II. It is awarded for bravery in combat or for meritorious service to the benefit of the Belgian nation, and can be given to both Belgian citizens and foreign nationals. The order is seen as a diplomatic gift of merit and currently stands third in the Belgian honors hierarchy, following the Order of Leopold and the Order of the Crown. The current Grand Master is His Majesty King Philippe. This order is issued in five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight, along with three medals: gold, silver, and bronze. It has become frequently awarded as a long service order, especially within the civil service, often alternating with the Order of the Crown. The lowest distinction is the bronze medal in the Order of Leopold II, and it is awarded by royal decree.
